Residents and businesses in Charlotte, NC reported experiencing a prolonged AT&T outage for nearly an entire business day — disrupting internet access, communication, business operations, customer service, remote work, transactions, and income. 📡🛑
Customers were first told service would be restored by 4:00 PM, then later received another notice extending restoration to 10:00 PM – Yet wasn’t restored till the next day. Meanwhile, businesses, entrepreneurs, remote workers, and families were left carrying the losses.
Then comes the “solution” many consumers know too well:
A small automatic bill credit that does not remotely reflect the actual damages suffered.
A $3 credit does not replace:
❌ Lost business
❌ Missed customers
❌ Interrupted operations
❌ Lost productivity
❌ Financial hardship
❌ An entire day of disruption
Even more concerning is when credits are simply applied without meaningful discussion, agreement, or accountability regarding the actual impact suffered.
❓ Why are billion-dollar corporations allowed to generate massive profits while accountability to consumers remains minimal, nonexistent, or reduced to symbolic credits?
AT&T makes political contributions through its employee-funded Political Action Committees (PACs) and authorized corporate funds. For the most recent election cycles, total contributions have hovered near $6 million per cycle, historically split with approximately 65% going to Republicans and 35% to Democrats.
Funding Mechanisms
• Employee PACs: Funds are contributed voluntarily by AT&T employees and distributed to federal and state candidates.
• Corporate Contributions: Used where lawful for state/local candidates, political parties, and ballot measures. AT&T does not use corporate funds to contribute to federal candidates or national political parties.
Recent Cycle Data
In the 2023-2024 election cycle, the AT&T Inc. Employee Federal PAC and affiliated entities distributed over $5.9 million in contributions, with disbursements favoring Republicans, roughly 64.6%, over Democrats, 34.5%.
In my opinion, these corporate-political relationships raise serious conflict-of-interest concerns. When companies can contribute millions into political systems while consumers struggle to receive fair remedies for service failures, many citizens are left questioning whether government agencies truly protect the people or whether reporting issues becomes another process with little meaningful accountability.
The average citizen can use wisdom, knowledge, and public information to discern for themselves. Many Americans increasingly feel that government leaders appear to work for their own benefit and political interests rather than for the American citizens they were elected to serve.
Consumers deserve:
✔️ Reliable infrastructure
✔️ Fair compensation
✔️ Transparency
✔️ Accountability
✔️ Representation that prioritizes citizens over corporate influence
This is not written in anger — it is written from observation, experience, and concern for the direction society is heading. The wealth of these corporations is built on the backs of citizens and customers. Companies can no longer feel entitled to automatic loyalty, payments, and trust. They must earn it.
There are other options available — some cheaper, with better quality and better customer service. Consumers must compare, question, and choose wisely.
